21-storey building under construction collapses in Lagos

A 21-storey building under construction in Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos State, collapsed on Monday afternoon with several people trapped in the rubbles.

The Director-General of Lagos state Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osayintolu confirmed the incident and said rescue operations are ongoing.

“The Agency has activated its emergency response plan to the scene. Search and Rescue operations ongoing.

“The Hon. Commissioner for Special Duties & Intergovernmental Relations, it's counterpart, Hon. Comm for Physical Planning and DG LASEMA are fully on ground.

“All first responders are at the scene while the heavy duty equipment and life detection equipment have been dispatched.
