Gunmen kill Ondo traditional ruler
Gunmen have shot dead Oba Isreal Adeusi, the Olufon of Ifon on Thursday evening along Benin-Owo-Akure highway at Elegbeka of Ose Local Government.
The monarch was said to be returning to Ifon from Akure, the state capital, where he had gone to attend a meeting before running into the gunmen who had laid ambush on the highway.
It was also gathered that the bandits opened fire on the vehicle conveying the monarch, on sighting the vehicle.
The monarch was said to have been rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Owo where he gave up the ghost.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the incident.
He described the incident as sad and very unfortunate, saying the bandits also kidnapped two persons in the convoy after shooting the monarch.
Leo-Ikoro noted that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bolaji Salami, has directed all police divisions in the area to swing into action.
He stated that the police personnel would work with other security agencies to apprehend the bandits and secure the release of the victims.
