Husband,46, docked for alleged assault, threat to kill wife
The Police in Osun on Thursday arraigned a 46-year-old man, Wale Ige, before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for alleged assault and threat to kill his wife, Abisola Ige.
Ige is facing a two-count charge of assault and threat to kill.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Temitope Fatoba, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug.31, at 7:00a.m., at Biket area of Osogbo.
Fatoba said that the defendant unlawfully assaulted his wife and inflicted injuries on her body despite threat to bathe her with an acid.
He said that the defendant also threatened to kill his brother-in-law, Dada Abayomi, as a result of the rancour between him and his wife.
“The defendant alleged that his wife was returning home late and running after men without being faithful,” the prosecutor said.
The Prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 86 and 351 of the Criminal Code cap. 34 ; Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.
The defence counsel, Mr Alfred Adegoke, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mr Taofeek Badmus, in his ruling granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 and one surety in like sum.
Badmus said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction with evidence of tax payments and produce two passport photographs attached to an affidavit of means.
The case was adjourned until Sept. 24 for hearing.
