Man remanded for armed robbery in Osun

A 35 year old man, Onyedim Chijoke was on Thursday remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Centre Ile-Ife over alleged armed robbery.

The plea of the defendant was not taken by Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji as according to her, the court lacks jurisdiction to try armed robbery case.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov 11, 2018, around 02:30 am at Obafemi Awolowo University Staff Quarters Road 10, House 3, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit felony to wit : Armed Robbery.

According to him, the defendant armed himself with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons to rob one Alarape Akinsola of his Toyota Camry car with Reg No: JAN 782 BB, valued N1.8 million.

He stated that the defendant also robbed Akinsola of one Apple Macbook, one Apple Wrist watch, one Nouada Wrist watch, one Fossil Wrist watch, Wifi, shoes, five mobile phone and sum cash, total valued N1.543 million.

The Prosecutor stated further that the offence contravened sections 1(1), (2), (a),  (b) and 6(b)of the Robbery & Firearms (Special Provisions),  Laws of Federation,  2004.

According to him, the defendant armed himself with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons to rob one Alarape Akinsola of his Toyota Camry car with Reg No: JAN 782 BB, valued N1.8 million.

However, Magistrate Olatunji asked the prosecutor to duplicate the case file of the defendant to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), State Ministry of Justice.

She therefore ordered the remand of the defendant in Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Centre pending the arraignment at the appropriate court as she adjourned until March 10, for mention.
