Two remanded for alleged murder

One Chukwuna Ezekiel, 40 and Azeez Mumini, 35, were on Friday remanded by an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife for alleged murder and possession of firearms.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that, the duo, Ezekiel and Mumini, committed the offence on January2, 2020 around 11:00 am at Alapata Village via, Modakeke-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that Ezekiel unlawfully fired and killed one Elijah Ogunniyi with a gun.

“Mumini also hid one locally made double barrel gun used in committing the offence of murder by Ezekiel in order to enable him to escape punishment.

According to him, Mumini unlawfully had in his possession one locally made double barrel gun without lawful authority.

The Prosecutor stated that the offence contravened sections 319(1),322 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002 and 4, 27(1),(b) (1) of Firearms of Federation, 2004.

The plea of Ezekiel was not taken, while Mumini pleaded not guilty to count two and three of the charge.

Magistrate Joseph Owolawi ordered for the remand of the defendants in Ile-Ife Nigeria Correctional Centre and transferred the case to Modakeke Magistrates’ Court.

Owolawi adjourned the case until Jan 27, for mention.
