Abiodun, Makinde meet on food, security

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun says it is time for the state to strengthen economic and security collaboration with Oyo State in the area of food production and ensure adequate security in both state.

This was disclosed in a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Kayode Akinmade.

Mr Abiodun met with Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan on Tuesday. The meeting focused on addressing food and security issues affecting Ogun and Oyo.

Speaking with journalists after the closed-door meeting, Mr Abiodun noted the two states’ deep cultural and economic connections.

He said, “I came to see my brother, Governor Makinde, to discuss issues of shared interest. Ogun was once part of the Old Western Region, where Ibadan served as the capital.

“The states share strong cultural and economic bonds with the people and government of Oyo State. Daily, we host major investors in our sub-region due to the close ties between both states.

“This moment provides an opportunity to strengthen economic cooperation, especially in agriculture, to boost food security and self-sufficiency. Our discussions focused on growing what we eat and eating what we grow, aiming to make the region Nigeria’s breadbasket.”

Mr Abiodun praised Oyo’s agricultural efforts, pointing out that Ogun is also active, with farms in Odeda, Imeko, and Yewa North, near Oyo State.

He highlighted the vital role of security in supporting socio-economic progress and sustainable development.

Mr Abiodun also commended the South-West Security Network, Amotekun, for its role in intelligence gathering and maintaining regional security.
