COVID-19: Nigeria records 1,588 new cases, total now 139,242

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded 1,588 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 139,242.

The NCDC disclosed this on its official Twitter handle on Saturday.

Data from the health agency (NCDC) reveals that 918 coronavirus patients were successfully treated and discharged from the various treatment centres after receiving their second negative result while 6 new COVID-19 related deaths were recorded increasing the nation’s death toll from the virus to 1,647.

The 1588 new cases are reported from 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Lagos the epicentre of the virus in the country topped the days’ infection chart with 535 new cases followed by Anambra -218, Oyo -155, FCT -150 and Kano -124.

Other states with new cases include Gombe -60, Kaduna -49, Ebonyi -48, Plateau -46, Akwa Ibom -39, Niger -37, Edo -33, Katsina -23, Rivers -18, Taraba -15, Nasarawa -14, Ogun -11, Delta -9, Ekiti -2, and Jigawa 2

Till date, 139,242 cases have been confirmed, 112,557 cases have been discharged and 1,647 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
