COVID-19: Nigeria records 221 new cases, as total hits 56,956

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Friday confirmed 221 new cases of COVID-19, bringing total number of infections in the country to 56,956.

Data from the health agency (NCDC) shows that 213 patients were successfully treated and discharged while one fatality was recorded on Friday pushing the nation’s death toll to 1,094.

The 221 new cases are reported from 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Lagos the epicentre of the pandemic in Nigeria reported 59 new infections followed by Abia -46 new cases, FCT -22 and Gombe -20.

Other states with new infections include Plateau -17, Rivers -11, Bauchi -7, Benue -6, Ekiti -6, Imo -6, Kaduna -4, Kwara -4, Ondo -4, Ogun -3, Osun -3, Bayelsa -1, Edo -1 and Kano -1.

Till date, 56,956 cases have been confirmed, 48,305 cases have been discharged and 1,094 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
