COVID-19: Nigeria records 72 new cases, as total exceed 63,000

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 72 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing total number of infections in the country to 63036.

The NCDC made this known via its microsite on Monday.

Data from the health agency (NCDC) reveals that 538 patients were successfully treated and discharged from the various treatment centres across the nation while one (1) fatality was recorded increasing the nation’s death toll to 1,147.   

The 72 new cases are reported from 8 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Lagos recorded 51 new infections followed by FCT -6.

Other states with new cases include Ogun -4, Kaduna -3, Niger -2, Ondo -2, Plateau -2, Katsina -1 and Oyo -1.

Since the index COVID-19 case discovered in the country, a total of 627,600 samples have so far been tested with 63,036 of the tests returning positive.

Till date 59,328 cases have been discharged and 1,147 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
