COVID-19: Nigeria records 796 new cases, as total exceed 72,000

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 796 new COVID-19 cases, bringing total number of infections in the country to 72,140.

The NCDC made this known via its official website Friday.

The Friday figure is the highest daily count so far since the virus was first confirmed in Nigeria on February 27, 2020.

Data from the health agency (NCDC) reveals that 238 coronavirus patients who were successfully treated in some of the isolation centres were discharged after receiving their second negative result increasing the total number of discharged patients to 65,712.

The 796 new cases are reported from 15 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

FCT tops the day’s infection chart for the second day running with 258 new cases followed by Lagos -248 and Kaduna -117.

Other states with new cases include Katsina -52, Ogun -27, Kwara -23, Gombe -22, Adamawa -17, Plateau -15, Kano -6, Rivers -2, Ondo -2, Ekiti -2, Nasarawa -2, Sokoto -2 and Taraba -1.

Till date, 72,140 cases have been confirmed, 65,712 cases have been discharged and 1,190 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
