Eid-el-Kabir: We want to record zero crash in Ondo State, FRSC tells motorists

The Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC) Ondo Command, has admonished motorists to imbibe safe driving culture and abide by the rules and regulations of road traffic to ensure zero crash during and after the Eid-Kabir celebration.

Mr Ezekiel SonAllah, State Sector Commander of FRSC, Ondo State, made this known at a rally organised for drivers by the command, which held at Benin Garage on Thursday in Akure.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the theme of the rally was “Towards Ensuring Crash Free Sallah Celebration”.

SonAllah said that it had become necessary for motorists and passengers to ensure that no lives and properties was lost during the festival and beyond.

According to him, accidents don’t know you whether you are a Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa or you are a Muslim or Christian, and does not know that lives do not have duplicate.

“Please, drive to stay alive because we want to record zero crash in this Sallah celebration and beyond here in Ondo State.

“This is a collective responsibility from the part of drivers, passenger and pedestrian too, and we must do what is supposed to be done when we are on the road, because failure and attitude of one person can result to a crash.

“If the driver is driving recklessly, its your duty as a passenger to caution such driver and report him to security agents at the next checking point.

“While drivers should ensure that their vehicles are in good order, such as wiper, tyre, lighting system and others before embarking on any journey,” he said.

SonAllah, therefore, called on motorists to install speed limit devices on their vehicles, saying any vehicle found without the device would be impounded.

He also urged drivers to shun night journeys, and ensure that the passengers manifest was recorded before leaving the park.

Speaking on behalf of the National Union of Road Transport Worker, (NURTW), Ondo State, Mr Isobo Sunday, Financial Secretary of Onisha Branch in Benin Garage appreciated the FRSC for the sensitisation and word of encouragement during the programme.

“This period of Sallah, we must be careful because there is going to be surplus of passengers, but we must make sure that our life and those of the passengers are safe.

“And in terms of speed limit device, we are going to do it and make sure evey vehicle has the device,” he said.
