Folorunso Alakija remains UNIOSUN chancellor – Osun govt

Osun State Government has clarified that Dr Folorunso Alakija remains the Chancellor of Osun State University after the dissolution of the Governing Council of the University.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, Olawale Rasheed on Sunday.

There have been fears that Alakija who was reappointed Chancellor by the former administration of Adegboyega Oyetola in 2021 has been relieved of her appointment by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Adeleke had last week sacked the UNIOSUN Governing Council.

According to the statement, “The Government of Osun State has clarified that Dr Folorunso Alakija remains the Chancellor of Osun State University after the dissolution of the Governing Council of the University.

“The position of the Chancellor is not part of the Governing Council and so the dissolution of the Council has nothing to do with the Chancellor.”

“The Government further notes with deep appreciation the ongoing multiple support from Dr Alakija to the infrastructural growth of the University.”

“The State values her selfless, humanitarian and philanthropic assistance to the human, physical and academic development of the university” the statement added
