FUNAAB gets approval to award degree in Geology - VC

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, Prof. Kolawole Salako, has said that the institution has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to start Geology as a course of study.

He disclosed this during his convocation address at the 28th and 29th Combined Convocation Ceremonies for the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 Academic Sessions, held at the Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building on campus.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the institution got the approval after a resource verification by NUC in 2021, stressing that the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) also gave full accreditation for the teaching and practice of Veterinary Medicine in FUNAAB in 2022.

He, however, reiterated his administration’s efforts at equipping the College of Veterinary Medicine (COLVET) and Veterinary Teaching Hospital, between 2019 and 2022 with state-of-the-art equipment and field facilities including a borehole, ambulance and other vehicles.

The Vice-Chancellor said this development had led to the granting of approval by the NUC for the institution to increase admission of students into the college from 30 to 60 in 2021, adding that the re-accreditation exercise for Mechatronics programme was conducted in November 2021.

Prof. Salako explained further that although, the NUC had maintained the Federal Government’s policy on the delisting of management courses in the University, but it however, on August 17, 2021, recognised the need to sustain a rebranded “Entrepreneurial Studies”, which necessitated the change of the name of the College of Management Sciences (COLMAS) to the College of Entrepreneurial and Development Studies (COLENDS) in 2021 by the University Senate, while emphasising that FUNAAB was committed to continuously improve staff and students’ welfare, as he urged graduating students not to despair, but to go into the world and conquer.
