INEC declares Sanwo-Olu winner of Lagos guber election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of Saturday’s gubernatorial elections in Lagos State.

Sanwo-Olu polled 762,134 votes to defeat the closest challenger, Labour Party’s candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes -Vivour, who garnered 312,329 votes while the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran polled 62,449 votes.

Even more, there was heightened interest in the result of the gubernatorial election in Lagos after Labour Party surprisingly polled more votes than the APC in the February 25 Presidential election.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Labour Party, LP, Lagos, Mrs. Dayo Ekong, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to cancel out rightly, the Governorship and House of Assembly elections conducted on March 18, in Lagos over electoral malpractices, irregularities. 

Ekong, raised the opposition against the exercise after the Returning Officer of Eti-Osa Local Government presented the results of the rescheduled elections in 10 units of the council.

The Labour Party chairman, claimed that alot of their supporters were killed and disenfranchised amid electoral malpractices across the state during the exercise.

Ekong described the exercise as “a sham.”
