Nigeria can only tackle unemployment through its educational policy - Don

A former Ambassador and permanent delegate of Nigeria to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, (UNESCO) Emeritus Professor Michael Omolewa has said Nigeria will be able to create massive employment opportunities for its citizens when it rejig its educational policy.

Amb. Omolewa stated this at the 2023 National Conference of Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, opening ceremony on Tuesday.

Speaking on the theme "Pedagogies and policies amidst global educational challenges" 

Prof. Omolewa disclosed that the wrong implementation of Nigeria educational policy contributed immensely to the high rate of unemployment experienced in the country. 

"The current Nigeria educational policy is designed to create job seekers and not job creators".

"Nigeria would have experienced technological breakthrough if its 6-3-3-4 educational policy was properly implemented."

But the country has found itself in a mess with the current unemployment rate which stands at 37.7% and is expected to climb further to 40.6% in 2023 as per KPMG report.

"The only way way out of this situation is proper implementation of policies otherwise job creation will continue to be a mirage" the statement added.
