Ogun Assembly approves creation of audit department in LGAs

The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed the Local Government (Amendment) Law, 2024, paving the way for the establishment of an Audit Department in local government administrations.

This milestone legislation aims to promote prudency and improved service delivery.

The bill’s passage followed a seamless process, starting with the presentation of the Committee report by Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Jemili Akingbade.

The motion for adoption was seconded by Hon. Dickson Awolaja and supported by all members through a unanimous voice vote. Under the guidance of Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, the bill underwent a clause-by-clause reading and adoption by the Committee of Whole.

The Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, moved the motion for the third reading, seconded by Hon. Adeyinka Ademola, and the Whole House supported it through a unanimous voice vote.

The Deputy Clerk, Barr. (Mrs.) Funmilayo Adeyemi, then conducted the third reading before the lawmakers.

The Speaker, Mr Oludaisi Elemide, thereafter directed that the clean copy of the bill should be transmitted to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assent.
