Ogun workers suspends strike

The Organized Labour in Ogun State has suspended its 4-day old strike with immediate effect.

The organised labour announced the suspension of their industrial action on Friday night in a press statement signed by chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Bankole, his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Com. Akeem Lasisi and Com.Olude Isa Joint Negotiating Council (JNC).

The letter reads, “We hereby suspend the industrial strike action in Ogun State and hereby direct all workers to resume to their duty post with immediate effect” 

The workers, under the aegis of the leadership of the organised labour – the NLC, TUC, and Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC), had on Tuesday embarked on an indefinite strike, demanding immediate payment of their unremitted deductions and non-payment of pending eight years of statutory leave allowances.

The industrial action followed the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum earlier issued the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, asking him to attend to their welfare urgently.

But on Friday, the labour leaders called off the strike and directed members to resume work, citing series of meetings, negotiations, and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the state government as reasons for suspending the industrial action.
