Oyo Assembly begins six-week working recess

Lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly will commence a six-week working recess from August 1 to September 16.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, who disclosed this during Tuesday’s plenary, said that the recess was to enable lawmakers to have their annual legislative break.

He said, “The break is in accordance with the assembly’s legislative calendar. Members are to continue working from their various constituencies and homes.’’

Mr Ogundoyin appreciated the lawmakers for their commitment to legislative duties since January, adding that the recess would enable them to engage more closely with their constituents.

“The recess will also help in assessing the level of developmental projects across their respective constituencies. This break is essential for lawmakers to reconnect with the grassroots, monitor ongoing government projects, and gather feedback that will shape legislative interventions in the second half of the year,” he said.

The speaker said that the assembly passed several critical bills and resolutions aimed at supporting the policy directions of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

Mr Ogundoyin said that these were especially in areas of education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and rural development.

He said, “I urge lawmakers to maintain close contact with their constituents during the recess and remain committed to peace and the progress of the state.”
