Oyo TESCOM honours students, teachers for excellent performance

The Oyo State Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, has given award of recognition to two students and five Teachers for distinguishing themselves in various competitions.

This is contained in a statement signed by Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism and made available to newsmen on Friday in Ibadan.

Olatunbosun quoted the Chairman, TESCOM, Pastor Akinade Alamu, as saying that the award was initiated to motivate the students and teachers, who had performed brilliantly at second phase of Teachers’ Solidarity rally for Gov. Seyi Makinde.

He urged others to follow suit, adding that the Oyo State Government was poised to recognise and celebrate excellence, success, diligence, hard work, dedication and selflessness.

He said that one of the recipients, Mrs Mofolashade Egunjobi, a Principal at St. Anne’s School, Molete Ibadan, received an award for selfless dedication during the COVID-19 vacation.

The commissioner further said that others who also received award were Mrs. Olatunji Olufunmilayo, Mr. Olanrewaju Olaiwola Olateju and Miss Adedayo Adepoju, all from St. Anne’s School.

He said that the recipients were recognised for their exceptional methods of coaching the students to earn global awards.

He noted that their dedication earned two of the students from St. Anne’s School first and second positions in the recent Commonwealth Essay competition globally.

“The students, Mariam Lawal and Deborah Olatunji, also received awards of recognition by the State Government,” he said.

Olatunbosun also said that the state government recognised a Ph.D student teaching at Bishop Phillips Academy, Mr Ogundiji Olasunkanmi, for winning the National Maltina competition.

“These students and their teachers exhibited outstanding zeal in attaining excellence at various competitions.

“It took them commitment, responsibility, focus, determination, creativity, innovation, purpose-driven attitude and the fighting spirit to win laurels at local and international competitions.

“Oyo state students are winning laurels in competitions. We have two of our students from St. Anne’s that won the Commonwealth Essay Test. It is a global competition, this is a great feat for us in Oyo TESCOM.

“On behalf of Makinde, I am honoured to present them the awards. This is a token of our appreciation, to let them know that we appreciate what they are doing and we want them to do more,” he said.

The commissioner promised that the government would give more awards to different recipients and other stakeholders that have been collaborating with the state to advance the education sector.
