‘We won’t tolerate encroachment on buffer zones’

Lagos State Government has warned all encroachers of buffer zones in the built-up environment, saying that the act negates the Physical Planning laws.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Idris Salako made this known at an interactive meeting with  reporters in his office at Alausa.

He declared that there was zero tolerance for development on all buffer zones, adding that they are reserved areas not meant for physical developments.

The Commissioner called for a synergy amongst approving government agencies and urged them to be more diligent in monitoring and protecting the zones so that the environment would be secured and safe for human habitation.

He said the Ministry would intensify its monitoring activities to determine the extent of such encroachments across the state, while identified infractions would be dealt with accordingly.

Salako added that the Appeals Committee on Physical Planning and Building Control was in place to address the grey areas on this issue.
