Anchor borrowers program: Ogun govt prepares over 500 hectares of land to employ 40,000 youths

Ogun State Government has embarked on clearing of over 500hectares of land purposely for farming and production of more food for the state and the federation at large.

The anchor borrower's program which is aimed at linking smallholder farmers, upcoming farmers and unemployed youths to land, credit and input, purposely to be untop of food security for the state and Nigeria at large will have over 40,000 youths involved in various farming activities to ensure this purpose.

The state commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Samson Odedina and his team were on inspection tour to one of the agricultural zone in the state located at Apojula village in Odeda local government area of the state disclosed that the program is designed to ensure food security and engaging the youth interested in farming to get them employed.

He described the government resolves on linking the youths to land, train them and also sell their end farming products to industries that have already shown interest in purchasing them for agro industrialization

The Honourable Commissioner, Dr. Adeola Odedina in company of the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Dotun Sorunke, the Chairman Anchor Borrowers’ Programme Steering Committee, Prof. Bola Okuneye, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Dr. (Mrs) Angel Adelaja-Kuye and Project Manager, Ogun State Agricultural Development Project (OGADEP), Mrs Taiwo Ayansanwo, told pressmen that such land clearance was on-going simultaneously in the other two Senatorial Districts of the State and would benefit young farmers who have registered for Cassava Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, but are without land.
