2023: Oyo councilors’ forum endorses Makinde’s re-election bid

The Oyo State Councilors Forum on Thursday endorsed Governor Seyi Makinde‘s re-election bid.

In a statement at the end of its general meeting in Ibadan, signed by its president and secretary, Muili Arowodana and Okunade Idowu respectively, the forum said councillors from all 351 constituencies in the state have expressed unconditional support for the governor.

The aldermen who approved a vote of confidence in the governor for what they described as exceptional leadership skills and disposition for good government, resolved to work assiduously for his re-election in 2023.

The group further denounced suggestions that the governor neglected the forum and its members, clarifying that Makinde approved an enhanced welfare package for its members on April 11.

“The Forum apologized to the Governor for any embarrassment that a recent voice memo that painted a wrong picture of the situation in the councils might have caused him and the government.

“The councilors have pledged to continuously support the Makinde administration and will also continue to be the voices of the people, by doing all that is necessary to ensure that people at the grassroots continue to derive the much-desired dividends of democracy at all times.” the statement read.
