2027: Ogundoyin joins Oyo governorship race

The Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, has officially declared his entry into the 2027 governorship race following a resounding endorsement by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Ibarapaland.

The endorsement came during a high-level PDP Ibarapaland Stakeholders’ Zonal Meeting held in Igboora, where party leaders, grassroots mobilisers, and key political figures converged to deliberate on the party’s future ahead of the next election cycle.

Originally convened to discuss preparations for the planned visit of Governor Seyi Makinde to the zone, the meeting quickly evolved into a strategic political gathering, culminating in a unified call for the Speaker to contest the state’s top seat.

In a show of rare unity, stakeholders passed a strong vote of confidence in Ogundoyin, praising his leadership style, loyalty to the PDP, and his role in ensuring legislative stability in the state. Leaders from across the three local government areas in Ibarapaland urged him to step forward and lead the party into the 2027 governorship election.

Responding to the overwhelming support, Ogundoyin formally accepted the call, describing the endorsement as a “clarion call” from his people and a reflection of the collective aspiration for inclusive governance across Oyo State.

He assured party members and supporters of his commitment to aligning with the yearnings of the people, noting that his decision to join the race was driven by a desire to build on existing progress and expand development across all zones of the state.

The meeting attracted prominent figures within the PDP, including Hon. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, Hon. Ademola Ojo, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, and Alhaji Kamoru Adeyemi, alongside local government chairmen and other influential stakeholders.

In a follow-up engagement in Eruwa, party loyalists further reaffirmed their support for the Speaker, describing his governorship ambition as a reflection of the will of the people and a step toward greater political inclusion.

With this development, the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State has gained fresh momentum, as Ogundoyin’s entry is expected to reshape political alignments and intensify consultations within the PDP and beyond.
