Ogun PDP governorship candidate seeks support from co-contestants

Governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun, Hon. Ladi Adebutu has urged the aspirants, who lost at the party’s primary election, to join him on a mission to take over the reign of the state in 2023.

Adebutu extended the hands of fellowship to the aspirants when the party presented the certificates of return to those who emerged as the House of Assembly and National Assembly candidates on the platform of the party, in Abeokuta on Friday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the National Working Committee (NWC) of PDP had earlier this week presented a certificate of return to Adebutu, thereby recognising him as the party’s candidate in the state.

Adebutu appealed to his co-contestants and others who lost out in the primaries to bury the hatchet and work together with him to improve the chances of the party at reclaiming the state in the 2023 general elections.

The former House of Representatives member insisted that he was determined to foster unity in the party by working with all the aggrieved members.

According to him, a divided party may not be able to win any election in the state.

The PDP candidate, therefore, urged the party to call a meeting of all those who lost at the primaries to work together for the good of the party.

“I am determined to bring everybody on board because those who won the primaries did so, not because they were the best and not because they have the total number of votes. So those who lost out must not be left behind.

“That is why I have decided to carry everybody along, and I think that is the beauty of PDP.

“We are not known for imposition of candidates. I think we have successfully managed well, democratically and we are still managing the situation.

“We must endeavour to have a big happy family so that we can face the challenges ahead.

“We recognise that we are still in the opposition and that the work at hand is extensive. We are hoping to take over power from them, come 2023,” he said.
