Abiodun appoints Odegbami as grand sports ambassador
Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has appointed ex-international, Chief Segun Odegbami as the grand sport ambassador of the gateway state
Governor Abiodun made this known while playing host to members of the Guild of sport editors at okemosan, Abeokuta, on Tuesday.
Abiodun stated that the appointment was in recognition of his contributions to the nation’s sporting events
Governor Abiodun informed that the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, NSF, tagged 2024 gateway games that will commence between may 16th and may 30th expected to be the best in the country is targeted at discovering new talents that will promote sporting events in the state and the nation at large
The governor stated that the state government has provided the state of the art sport facilities at the various locations to make the event a memorable ones adding that in the history of the national sport festival, NSF, this is the first time that over ten thousand athletes from the thirty-six states including federal capital territory, FCT, that will participate in the bi-ennial sport event would be accommodated in a particular location
While assuring that the state government has made provision for shuttle buses to transport the sport men and women to the venue of the sport activities without delay, governor Abiodun maintained that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to secure lives and properties during the gateway games
Speaking on the economic benefits to the state, Abiodun stated that the state government would use the opportunity to build sport economy for the state noting that the people of the state would also experience bumper harvest during the event as major hotels would be fully booked while all the petty traders would also make a brisk business
Gov. Abiodun urged the media practitioners to assist the state government through full coverage of the event promising that his government would partner the media towards a successful hosting of the event
Responding, the newly appointed sport grand ambassador, chief segun odegbami thanked governor Abiodun for the appointment promising that he would use the new position to advance sport activities in the state.
