Oyo SWAN commends Makinde over remodelling of stadium
The Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Oyo State has commended Gov. Seyi Makinde over remodelling of the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
The commendation was contained in a communique issued by the association after its congress on Tuesday in Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the governor recently flagged-off the remodelling of the stadium which is expected to be ready in 18 months.
The association commended the governor, urging him to extend the gesture to other stadia such as Olubadan Stadium in Ibadan, Durbar Stadium in Oyo, Ogbomoso Township Stadium and Eleruwa Stadium among others.
It frowned at the exploitation of sports writers by some media owners in the state, urging them to halt all practices inimical to the progress of the profession.
The association appealed to sports writers to be in tune with the development of the profession, encouraging them to adhere strictly to all COVID-19 protocols while discharging their duties.
It appointed Mr Adebayo Raji of Daily Independent, Mr Akeem Abas of News Agency of Nigeria and Mr Ayomiku Ajibola of Nigeria Television Authority as members of an electoral committee.
The committee was charged with the responsibility of conducting a free, credible, fair and acceptable election that would usher in a new executive for the association.
