COVID-19: Nigeria records 591 new cases, as total rises to 39539

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 591 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 39,539.

Twelve deaths were recorded from the virus on Friday bringing the total number of confirmed deaths from the virus to 845.

The Health agency in its breakdown shows that unlike in the past, Oyo State overtook Lagos with a record 191 new cases, thus exceeding that of the FCT.

“While Lagos came second on the list with 168 cases, the FCT recorded 61 cases,” it added.

Other states with new infections are Ondo 29, Osun, 26, Ebonyi, 24, Edo, 23, Ogun, 14, Rivers, 13, Akwa Ibom, 12, Kaduna, 10 Katsina, 6, Borno, 4, Ekiti, Delta and Imo each having 3 cases, and Niger, 1

NCDC said as of the time of reporting there were 22,135 active cases of COVID-19 in the country, while 16,559 had recovered and have been discharged.

 “Till date, 39,539 cases have been confirmed, 16,559 cases have been discharged and 845 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” the NCDC stated.
