COVID-19: Oyo records 191 new cases, total now 2,497

Oyo state on Friday recorded its highest single day total of new COVID-19 cases with 191 new infections.

The data released on Friday night by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) revealed that the state also toppled Lagos State from the number one spot in daily new infections.

The 191 new coronavirus infections in Oyo State eclipsed its previous daily high of 141 new infections.

Meanwhile, twenty-two persons were also discharged on Friday after receiving their second negative results bringing the number of discharged patents to 1,146.

Gov. Seyi Makinde gave a breakdown of the Local Government Areas where the 191 new cases are reported from; Iseyin – 55, Lagelu -37, Ibarapa Central-21, Egbeda -11, Oyo East - 9, Ibadan North -8, Orelope -8, Afijio -6, Ona- Ara – 6, Ogbomosho South - 6, Ogbomosho North – 4, Ido -4, Ibadan North West -3, Oluyole -3, Atiba -3, Oyo West -3, Ibadan South West -1, Ibadan North East -1, Akinyele -1, and Ibadan South East 1

According to the NCDC tally, the new figures raised the number of confirmed cases in the State to 2,497 from 2,309.

The State also recorded two new COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to twenty-four.
