Osun adopts new education policy

The Osun state government on Monday adopted a new education policy in a bid to improve the delivery of quality education in the State.

The decision of the cabinet was made known via the governors Twitter handle.

“Today, I presided over the State Executive Council meeting, where we examined the report of the Education Panel set up to review some of the extant education practices and policies of the State, in a bid to improve the delivery of quality education in Osun.

Following an extensive deliberation, the Council unanimously agreed on the ten issues raised in the report and accepted the recommendations of the Review Panel. I'm, therefore, pleased to note that we have adopted a new education policy in Osun.

We have set aside the 4-5-3-4 policy and returned to the 6-3-3-4 structure in line with the National Education Policy. We have also reversed the single uniform regime. We agreed to retain Opon Imo (Tablet of Knowledge) but with some modifications for optimum performance.

The adoption of the recommendations of the Review Panel is in line with the yearnings of Osun people who elected us to serve them. Government exists to serve the interest of the people; this we will always do.”

The state Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode, said the cabinet directed that pupils in public schools across the state should return to wearing their previous uniforms effective from next academic session.
